Guides to Commission Procedural Rules
Added to Commission Website

The Federal Mine Safety and Health Review Commission announces the release of three new guides to Commission rules on its website (www.fmshrc.gov). These include a guide to how a case proceeds before the Commission, a summary of Commission rules, and a "Frequently Asked Questions" section. The guides are designed to provide clear and concise guidance to the public on various topics related to the Commission and its proceedings under the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977. They are intended to assist the public's understanding of the Commission's procedural rules, which were recently revised.

"How a Case Proceeds" provides a summary of different types of proceedings under the Mine Act, and includes helpful charts identifying key time frames. The summary of Commission rules is a "plain English" guide, written to assist parties before the Commission in understanding the Commission's rules. In addition, the "Frequently Asked Questions" contain responses to many of the most commonly asked questions received from members of the public by the agency. The Commission also plans to publish these guides in booklets which will be made available to the public later this year.

Questions regarding these guides should be directed to Michael McCord, General Counsel, at mmccord@fmshrc.gov. If you would like to receive an interim copy of the paper versions, please contact the Commission's Docket Office at (202) 434-9950 or docket@fmshrc.gov.
