Abstract:  The Commission’s library contains a specialized collection of materials pertaining to the mining industry and its regulation. The library also contains material on occupational safety and health.  The public may obtain access at the library to various types of agency records, including the Commission’s regulations, monthly decision volumes, and indices to its decisions.

Order Process:  Members of the public may visit the library during the hours of service.  The standard copy fee for documents copied at the Commission is 15 cents per page.  In addition, the library accepts requests from other libraries through the interlibrary loan system by Telephone or fax.  The FMSHRC library requires a signed American Library Association interlibrary loan form.  For local libraries, the FMSHRC library requires messenger pick-up and delivery.  Loans are for a two-week period, with a one-week renewal.  Loaned materials are subject to recall.

Access Constraints:  The Library is open between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, to members of the public conducting research.  All research materials must be used on the premises.  Library materials are available for circulation to members of the public only through the interlibrary loan system described above.
